Well, I tried the square again with the next larger hook and would you believe it STILL was 7 1/2 inches when I was done? I was getting exasperated, but I went up ONE more hook size and gave it another try. When I was done, it was 8 1/2 inches! Well, the only thing I could do was take off the last round and do it over with a smaller hook, but it still came out to 8 1/4 inches. I am sending it that way...I hope its ok.If you are interested in getting the pattern, you can ask for it by e-mail and it will be sent to you, provided you agree to make at least ONE square and send it in for charity. Update - 4/2/10 - You can no longer get the pattern by request. You now have to join the designer's Yahoo group and then you can access the pattern. A bit inconvenient but it is a nice pattern to have.

Pretty square--I too sent away and still have not made a good enough square to send--my first square came out to be only 6 1/2"--Gail helped with me with the pattern and I have a big picture of her's, so maybe I can see where I went wrong. .It is an ingenious design

Oops! You have reminded me that I have not made my obligatory square as well. What size hook did you end up using?
Mini, I ended up using a J hook for all but the last row...then I switched to a G. I started out with the G...then went to H...then went to J. I suppose if I had to make another one, I could try an I hook but I got a bit burned out on making 3 of them in one night :) If I send her anymore, I will try using JUST the I hook and see what happens. :)
Thanks Sandy! I was going to start one yesterday and can you believe I don't have any black or white yarn for the background? LOL I ordered some yesterday. When it gets here, I'll try the I hook and let you know how it goes.

These squares are very pretty! Today I finished a hand bag and I believe that I created a different point of crochet. It would like heard its opinion on this. I wait a visit its to mine blog and an opinion on the point of crochet. You it would know to indicate me some thing on as to register a patent?

OK, I finally made this square and used an H. It's close to 8", so I'll just block it to size ;)
